Senior Year Coursework Changes

We expect that you will successfully complete the senior year coursework listed on your admission application. Schedule changes of academic coursework during your senior year and/or the unsuccessful completion of your senior year coursework may result in the cancellation of admission. If you're considering making schedule changes, or if you are concerned about your academic progress in any of your courses, please contact us by phone or email

Foreign Language Requirements

Foreign language is not required for admission. However, UW-Stout students must fulfill our global perspective requirement, which typically includes taking courses in a foreign language. We encourage you to complete at least two years of a foreign language class in high school, so that you'll be better prepared to succeed at UW-Stout.

Specific Major Requirements

Some of our programs are particularly competitive and require that applicants submit other materials in addition to the standard application.

Admission Decisions

Our admission decisions are based on multiple criteria including academic rigor, academic GPA, trend in grades, rank in class and ACT/SAT scores. Non-academic factors such as extracurricular activities will also be considered. We conduct a comprehensive review and no single factor will eliminate or guarantee admission.

Once we've reviewed your complete application, we make one of three admission decisions:

  • Admit » Congratulations, you’re in!
  • Deny » Students who are not competitive for admission to UW-Stout.
  • Postpone » Some applicants are neither admitted nor denied upon initial review. These students are postponed. Postponed applicants have strong qualifications and the potential for success at UW-Stout. However we would like to review grades from the first semester of your senior year, review your new ACT scores, or receive recommendation letters before making an admission decision.
