Every year hundreds of families visit our campus to experience the amazing talent of our students and to spend quality time with family. Take part in our family fun run/walk, laugh with our comedian or watch students strut their stuff on the runway at the Fashion without Fabric fashion show. Whatever you choose, we hope you’ll make the visit to Menomonie to see what our Stout family is all about!

Guided Tours of the Mabel Tainter Center For the Arts
Location | 205 Main Street East, Menomonie

Visit the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts for a FREE guided tour of what CNN Travel has called "One of the 15 most spectacular theaters in the WORLD!" Tours will be held at the top and bottom of the hour with the last tour leaving at 2:30 pm.

Stop by the lower level of the MSC for some free family photo booth fun!

4:51 pm – 6:00 pm
Film Festival and Exhibition
Location | Memorial Student Center, Huff's Lounge

The annual 4:51 Short Film Festival & Exhibition invites aspiring student filmmakers from across campus to create a short cinematic adaptation of any published piece of literature. The published piece could be a portion of a short story, a scene from a play, a poem, etc., and are not are not to exceed 4 minutes, 51 seconds in length. Stop by our red-carpet premiere to watch the top 3 films (1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place). The 2019 Festival will focus on interpreting the work of female authors.

The corresponding Gallery Exhibition, created by students from ENGL 113 (Honors), will focus on Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Frankenstein.   Families will have the chance to talk with students as they share the results of their research.

University Theatre Spring Production | Picasso at the Lapin Agile

Stout Theatre Presents Picasso at the Lapin Agile.  Written by the comic genius Steve Martin, the play takes place in a Paris bar in 1904 where the paths of Picasso, Einstein and Elvis intersect.  What follows is a witty and delightful encounter of intellect and artistry.  Throw in a drunken old man, and other sordid individuals and the bar comes alive with the Paris night life.  

Tickets go on sale in March and can be purchased online, at the door, or at the Service Center.

Take part in Urec's annual 5K Family Fun Run/Walk around campus.  Register at the Urec Office in the Sports & Fitness Center, room 41. Pre-registration is $3, and day of registration is $5.

Protect Yourself | Where do germs really come from?
Location | Heritage Hall, Room 371

Join Dr. Taejo Kim, Professor in the Food and Nutrition Department, for a hands-on demonstration about foodborne pathogens.  Dr. Kim will demonstrate with participants how germs and bacteria grow.   Samples will be collected and participants will have a chance to experiment and learn how bacteria like listeria and salmonella grow.

Dr. Kim invented an easy-to-use assay kit for salmonella and listeria spp and serves as a consultant for food processors and teaches in the Department of Food and Nutrition.  He has collaborated with numerous universities and federal agencies preparing grant proposals that have been funded for over $2 million.

Sensory Experience of Taste Testing Foods

It is a taste testing experience to demonstrate a typical sensory taste test used in the food industry for new products, research and development or product development. This taste test also highlights an example of what students can experience in the Basic Sensory Course within the Food and Nutrition department.

Monster Drawing Rally

Sponsored by AIGA, join us for the 7th Annual Monster Drawing Rally! Watch as a variety of artists create mixed media artwork throughout two rounds. The Monster Drawing Rally is not necessarily about drawing monsters, although it could be. Each artist has complete freedom to create what they like with the materials of their choice. The unique pieces will be sold for $15 each. It is a great opportunity to gather an artistic community and indulge in the entertainment.

Enjoy some live music on the amphitheatre! Jim Herrick and Friends is a band from Colfax, WI. Their specialty is the Blues, but they cover a wide range of musical styles!

Fashion Without Fabric Show

Fashion Without Fabric has become a yearly sensation.  At the show, the audience can take pleasure in the atmosphere and entertainment of a fashion show unlike any other.  Stout’s own art and design students will employ creativity to produce unique fashions using anything and everything but fabric.  Tickets go on sale in March and can be purchased online, at the door, or at the Service CenterHurry, as they sell out quickly!

Our two 30ft Climbing Walls will be open for FREE for any of our student’ parents/immediate family members as long as they attend with their student and their student presents a current UW-Stout ID.  All experience levels welcome!

UW-Stout Escape Room - Limited spots available!

That's right, UW-Stout has it's very own escape room!  While on a tour of Jurassic Industries, the UW System’s premier living-dinosaur research facility, a security emergency leaves the park powerless. With limited staff, you are the only hope at restoring the power before the back-up generators run out, releasing dinosaurs from their enclosures into the Menomonie community! Can you save our campus and restore power in time?

Time slots available:

  • Friday, April 12th | 5pm and 7pm
  • Saturday, April 13th | 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm
  • Sunday, April 14th | 11am, 1pm and 3pm

Tickets are $5/students and $10/community. ***If you register and plan to participate with your student please purchase your tickets at the student rate for your entire group.
