Over $1,200,000 in scholarships are awarded every year to our students. We want you to be one of them!

Automatic Scholarships Upon Acceptance

No need to apply here! If you meet the criteria for one of these scholarships, it will automatically be awarded to you once you arrive at UW-Stout.

Polytechnic Scholarship | $1,000 (non-renewal)

You are eligible for the Polytechnic Scholarship if you meet these criteria:

  • ACT composite score of 23 or higher.
  • Rank in the top 30% of graduating class (or if high school does not rank, earn a 3.5 GPA or higher).
  • New freshmen student admitted to UW-Stout for fall semester by the first Monday in February

Any updated credentials must be received no later than March 15th.

Chancellor's Scholarship | $3,000 ($1500 renewal option)

You are eligible for the Chancellor's Scholarship if you meet these criteria:

  • ACT composite score of 26 or higher.
  • Rank in the top 10% of graduating class (or if high school does not rank, earn a 3.75 GPA or higher).
  • New freshmen student admitted to UW-Stout for fall semester by the first Monday in February.

Any updated credentials must be received no later than March 15th.

Stout Scholars | $5,000 (renewal option)

The selective Stout Scholars Scholarship is awarded to just three outstanding students. You are eligible if you meet these criteria:

  • ACT composite score of 26 or higher.
  • Rank in the top 10% of graduating class (or if high school does not rank, earn a 3.75 GPA or higher).
  • New freshmen student admitted to UW-Stout for fall semester by the first Monday in January.

Students who meet these requirements will be invited to campus to interview and attend Stout Scholars Day.

Additional Scholarships to Apply For

These scholarships for incoming students require that you submit an application in addition to meeting certain eligibility criteria.

Return to Wisconsin | 25% Discount

You are eligible for the Return to Wisconsin Scholarship if you meet these criteria:

  • Biological or legal parent, grandparent, or legal guardian, living or dead, have previously earned an undergraduate or graduate degree from UW-Stout.
  • Student or qualifying parent, grandparent or legal guardian must be a legal resident from states other than Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota or Ohio. 

Recipients will receive a 25% discount off the non-resident tuition rate. This discount only applies to undergraduate tuition and fees. Students are eligible to renew for it for 3 more years if they remain in good academic standing.

Honors Scholarships | $1,000 (renewal option)

You are eligible for an Honors Scholarship if you meet these criteria: 

  • ACT composite score of 24 or higher.
  • Rank in the top 25% of graduating class (or if high school does not rank, earn a 3.5 GPA or higher).
  • Incoming freshmen of any major.
  • Accepted to the University Honors College by February 5, 2018.
  • Demonstrated excellence in your Honors College application form.
  • Completed the Foundation Scholarship Application.

15 scholarships are available for a total package of $4,000. This is a $1,000 scholarship for select freshmen entering the Honors College and is renewable for four years.

Multicultural Student Scholarships | $2,500

You are eligible for the Multicultural Student Scholarship if you meet these criteria: 

  • Designated American minority (African American, American Indian, Hispanic or Asian).
  • United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • Minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be accepted and planning to enroll at UW-Stout as a first-year, full-time, degree-seeking student for the fall semester.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, employment, extracurricular, or other activities.
  • Financial need may be considered with FAFSA application.

This process is competitive with a limited number of scholarships available. Awards consist of a four-year scholarship valued at $10,000. Recipients will receive $2,500 each year up to four years providing continued eligibility requirements of a 3.0 GPA or higher, earn a minimum 24 credits each year and the following requirements are met:

  • Meet with Multicultural Student Services staff at least once each semester.
  • Participate in four Multicultural Student Services approved/sponsored activities each semester.
  • Complete a financial literacy component each semester.

Transfer Student Scholarship | $1,000 - $2,500

You are eligible for a Transfer Student Scholarship if you meet these criteria:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from your previous institution.
  • Must have a declared major in a UW-Stout undergraduate program (customized instruction students do not qualify).
  • Transferring a minimum of 24 credits, but no more than 90 credits.
  • Admitted to UW-Stout by June 1, 2018 with final transcripts due by June 8, 2018.
  • Completed your FAFSA.

Of the $30,000 available for these scholarships, $20,000 will be awarded on a financial-need basis, and $10,000 will be awarded based on merit.

Each recipient will receive between $1,000 and $2,500, with half the amount awarded in the fall semester and half in the spring semester. We will notify recipients by mail, e-mail, and as a part of your financial aid package sent out in late July.

Any scholarship money not distributed spring semester will be distributed using the same criteria for spring admitted students at half the normally awarded amount.

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship | $1,500 - $2,500

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship

This scholarship is offered only to qualified students transferring directly from two-year colleges. Please apply by June 8, 2018. Read more [PDF].
