A Scholarship for Woman Who Want to be The Boss

Look, guys. This is business; nothing personal. Let’s talk numbers -- just the cold, hard facts. Did you know… Female founders outperform their male peers? Have you heard… Female CEOs in the Fortune 1000 drive three times the returns as S&P 500 enterprises run predominantly by men? Unbelievably… Only 18 percent of all startups have a female founder, and when talking Series A, only 10 percent are female-led. In fact, of the $114 billion in funding given to these startups, only 6 percent of it makes its way to a female-founded startup. And did you know… Women-owned businesses added 340,000 new jobs between 2007 and 2015 while men-owned businesses cut 1.2 million? How about this one… Among the most successful companies, men begin their businesses with six times as much capital as women do! And have you read… Less than five percent of VC dollars go to women-led businesses? Well, we have, and we believe them to be true. That’s why we’re eager to offer a scholarship exclusively for women who want to execute on their business ideas.

Who is eligible?

Any female high-school or college student, who wants to start her own online business.

Federal Pell Grants Resources

Grants, especially government grants, are some of the best financial aid available, and typically base themselves on need. Like scholarships, grants do not usually require repayment. There are many kinds of student grants available at national, state, college, and organizational levels. Federal grants provided by the United States government make up some of the most common sources of financial aid for undergraduates.

Applying for financial aid largely consists of two steps. First, make sure you meet all the basic eligibility requirements for federal student aid. Next, submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. To remain eligible for federal grants, you need to file a FAFSA every year that you are enrolled in college.

The Importance of Craft Ship and Creation

At The Toolsy, we believe in Craft ship, which we define as having “great skill in creative endeavors”. Some of us are woodworkers by trade, other writers. What we share is an intense desire to constantly hone and improve our craft, and to imbue everything we create with a distinct sense of style and stewardship. We value creativity for its own sake, but if a creation betters the world around it, all the better. Some people will argue that craft ship is a dying art. Most people are knowledge workers, few people work with their hands, and style isn’t as important as scale. Others argue that the internet has led to the commodification of skills and trades, and that a distinct sense of craft ship is precisely what makes work stand out as unique in this age of digital noise.

We’d like to hear from YOU, and are prepared to offer a $500 scholarship (submitted by September 19, 2018) to the student (in high school or college) who best answers this question:

Craft ship is as essential as ever in 2018. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Students Affected by Cancer Scholarship

Many of us at Ambient Edge have been affected by cancer personally. We have seen coworkers; family members and treasured friends face this dangerous disease.

That’s why we’ve created the Ambient Edge Scholarship for Students Affected by Cancer. Our goal is simple: we want to help high-achieving students who have dealt with—or are still dealing with—cancer in any form. The scholarship will grant $1,000 to one talented, hard-working student to help them reach their dreams.

We understand that there are many ways for cancer to affect a life. Our scholarship is open to students who have been diagnosed with cancer themselves, as well as those who have stood by a loved one. Survivors, current cancer patients, and the allies of patients and survivors are welcome to apply. A single case of cancer can impact whole families or friend groups—often for years to come. We want to recognize this breadth of experience in our scholarship.

Our hope is that this scholarship will help a student overcome the unique challenges they’ve faced, and turn at least some small part of their cancer experience into a source of strength.

Qualifications:

  • 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Cancer has effected either you or a loved one in life
  • Enrolled or accepted to U.S. college/university

Scholarships for Women in STEM

For employers, a lack of diversity in the workplace can have serious consequences. Scientists have found that gender bias can influence the outcome of clinical trials, reduce the advancement of knowledge in various fields, and impede innovation and collaboration. For instance, researchers discovered that lab rats were less stressed in the presence of female researchers. While handled by male researchers, they released a stress hormone which influenced the results of the experiment.

We want to do our part to help more women study STEM subjects. However, the cost of higher education can feel overwhelming.

That’s why we’re offering $2,500 to eligible candidate enrolled in a degree related to the STEM fields.

  • Must be a woman currently enrolled in or attending a college university. High school students may apply once they have been accepted and enrolled.

  • Must be a US citizen
