Megan Copeland

Megan Copeland (third year)

Major: Marketing and Business Education

Favorite class: Principals of Management with Scot Vaver. A fun class learned a lot and the best professor
Favorite place to study on campus: Harvey hall study rooms or Fireside Café in the MSC.
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: Best café is Acoustic Café. Devil's Punch Bowl is super cool. Stout Craft Co. is a fun place to hang out at and eat yummy food.

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
First impressions were top tier. I toured in the fall and the campus looked like a Hallmark movie and I would love to live my life like a movie. I also felt at home and that I could be successful at Stout. 
Polytechnic is not something everyone knows about, but it is something that Stout incorporates into every class. I learn by applying my knowledge to real world settings or hands on so choosing this school with a polytechnic mission is a huge bonus.

I love Stout because: It is a unique campus with so many different majors you won’t see at every university. I also love Stout because it is my home away from home.


Hannah Borree

Favorite place to go in Menomonie: Bowling at Broadway Bowl, the Bottoms (a beach), trivia at Dean and Sue's Bar and Grill
 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
UW-Stout felt like home. It is a distance from home with the major I was interested in. I know when I enter a job in the near future, I will have a better understanding of the things I need to do by having this hands on experience.

I love Stout because: Learning is hands-on, campus is small but busy and everyone is so welcoming and eager to help me. 


August Galeazzi

Favorite place to study on campus: Fourth floor of the Library or fourth floor of Harvey Hall.
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: Eating at all the local restaurants and going to Devil Punch Bowl in the fall and winter. 
 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
UW-Stout offered small class sizes with an applied learning focus. I love that I get to do my own research on topics I am passionate about.

Connor Johnson

Favorite place to study on campus: Memorial Student Center (MSC)
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: Eating at all the local restaurants and running on the trails and paths. 

 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
UW-Stout specifically had computer engineering as a program, small campus size, in the town of Menomonie and friendly, helpful staff. The hands-on learning experience at Stout allows me to be more engaged with my courses and material I am learning. This helps me better prepare for exams and gives me real life exposure to things I may come across in the industry. 

I love Stout because: Of the hands-on experience I have in all of my courses and the opportunities Stout has provided me. 


Bradley Kase

Favorite place to study on campus: The Terrace in the Memorial Student Center (MSC).
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: The variety of trails and paths to hike on.

 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I chose Stout for the polytechnic spirit and also the number of opportunities such as internships/co-op, study abroad or ways to get involved on campus. Hands-on applied learning is how I have always learned best and I knew a polytechnic education was going to give me the best opportunity. 

I love Stout because: I never run out of things to do on campus.


Mackenzie Lentz

Favorite class: Criminology because all of the information was really interesting and the professor was great.
Favorite place to study on campus: The nooks under the staircase in the Memorial Student Center (MSC).
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: My favorite place is all of the cafés in the area. I also like the game shop that has lots of cool games and things inside. 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I came to UW-Stout because of the hands-on experience. Classes also use real world situations we can use to apply what we know to what we will see in the field. 

I love Stout because: The professors are super fun and will help you with anything you need. 


Makenna Lowell

Favorite class: Graphic Communications because we got to actually make everything we designed.
Favorite place to study on campus: The Fire Side Café in the Memorial Student Center (MSC).
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: I like to go bowling at Broadway Bowl or just walk around Menomonie by the lake. 
 

Why did you decided to study at a polytechnic university?
I chose Stout mainly because of my major, but specifically the focus of it. I liked that it was more engineering focused. I have found I learn much better with hands-on learning, so the polytechnic education has been great. It is so much more engaging and helps me prepare for the future. 

I love Stout because: Of the beautiful campus and the great people.


Sam Micoley

Favorite class: Golf Shop Merchandising because I was able to visit Hazeltine National Golf Club and make great connections with their staff.
Favorite place to study on campus: Fireside Café in the Memorial Student Center (MSC)
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: C&J's Candy Store to try candy from all over the country. Lucette's is also a favorite.

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I applied to 10 schools and toured 7 of them. I loved how Stout prioritizes their education and I knew I would graduate feeling prepared for the professional industry. The polytechnic curriculum was also a huge deciding factor because I did not want to read textbooks and take notes for four years. I wanted to have a purpose. 

I love Stout because: The professors are beyond amazing. I also love the location being in a small town but near Eau Claire and Minneapolis. 


Maggie O'Brien

Favorite class: Abnormal Psychology or Social Problems
Favorite place to study on campus: Fourth floor of the Library or Fireside Café in the Memorial Student Center (MSC)
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: Going to eat at Log Jam. Go sledding on the big hill by the ice rink every first snowfall. 
 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
UW-Stout offers smaller classes which means I get personal relationships with professors as well as peers and coursework is more interactive. I am more of a hands-on learner and a polytechnic education means that I get interactive experience rather than sitting in lectures.

I love Stout because: Professors go out of their way to get to know you. 


Brendan O'Donnell

Favorite class: Introduction to Logical Thinking because it applied a math mindset to English concepts.
Favorite place to study on campus: In a hammock in the green space outside the Memorial Student Center (MSC).
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: The Lions Game Park in Wakanda Park.
 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I chose Stout because I knew that the polytechnic experience is where I would thrive...I was right. To me, having the opportunity to apply what I have learned from my classes to the career I am working towards has set me up to be ahead of students at other universities.

I love Stout because: It has become my home, not my home away from home. 


Ben Olkowski

Favorite place to study on campus: My dorm room or the Library
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: Axe throwing at Stout Craft Co. and bowling at Broadway Bowl.

 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I chose Stout for the outstanding construction program as well as the polytechnic aspect. Having the hands-on aspect prepares you more for the industry compared to a normal class setting. It helps students be better prepared for their field of choice. 

I love Stout because: Of the excellent student culture we have on campus and the opportunities I have access to here. 


Aliyah Sherman

Favorite place to study on campus: Fireside Café in the Memorial Student Center (MSC)
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: The farmer's market - held Wednesdays and Saturdays all summer.

 

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I have a very short attention span so polytechnic courses keeps me interested and engaged with all my classes. The small things add up - e-Stout laptop program, textbooks, student organizations, 1:18 student to professor ratio. 

I love Stout because: All the people are amazing.


Gabriella Stone

Favorite class: My history classes have all been very interesting

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I love the hands-on learning aspects in all of my classes. It helps me to understand the information better and apply it to real life.

I love Stout because: Of the hospitality program and polytechnic learning.


Amanda Valest

Favorite class: Chemistry 2.  Although it was a rigorous course, the labs were fun and the professor truly got to know me outside of just being their student. 
Favorite place to study on campus: Memorial Student Center (MSC)
Favorite place to go in Menomonie: I love to go to the local coffee shops to study or hang out with friends.

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I chose Stout because of the polytechnic aspect of the school and the way they ran their academics. I also felt very comfortable on campus and thought it was pretty. A polytechnic education is important to me because hands-on learning works for me. Currently half my days are only labs and it really helps my academics.

I love Stout because: The community the school has. Walking to any place on campus I will run into someone I know and it is always great to consistently see familiar faces.

Why did you decide to study at a polytechnic university?
I wanted to learn in a hands-on way and be in smaller classes to connect with my peers. UW-Stout was the size I wanted, had the major I was interested in and was only an hour away from home. 

I love Stout because: It is the perfect size for me and filled with people who share my interest.
