At UW-Stout, we take a multidisciplinary approach to food and nutrition science. Our unique undergraduate and graduate degree programs work in tandem to prepare you for a fulfilling and exciting food and nutrition science career.

As a food and nutrition science student, you'll study the physical, microbial, and chemical makeup of food. You'll apply your research to develop safe, nutritious, and sustainable foods.
Become a food engineer using chemistry and microbiology
Biology, chemical engineering, and biochemistry studies will help you understand food processes and how to improve products. You'll learn in our laboratories and test kitchens how the food we consume daily is the result of extensive research and analysis. Each kitchen accommodates up to 22 students.

The food processing lab is equipped with a Groen cook/chill system with pump/fill station and Dixie vacuum can sealer, a vertical batch retort for canning, and an extruder.
Become an expert on food, good health, and nutrition
You'll learn how the body's metabolic and physiological responses to food and diet help prevent disease. As a food and nutrition science professional, you'll help teach healthy food selection and preparation. Our programs will challenge you with experiential learning in the classroom and 320 hours of field experience.
