Composting and recycling is our passion.
We are the only UW university to collect compostable materials -- food waste, napkins, and much more -- widely in all buildings. In 2020, we placed #1 in the UW System in the nationwide RecycleMania competition.
We help you get where you need to go using sustainable transportation!
Find students to carpool with using UW-Stout Rideshare. Ride our campus and community bus system for free with your student ID. And if you like bikes, you'll love UW-Stout. We are a designated Bike Friendly University with bike lockers, bike fix stations, and the StoutBikes bike share program for students to rent a new Giant brand bike for the semester, year, or summer.
Solar panels? We've got them!
We're also converting all our buildings to energy-efficient LED lighting and adopting green building principles when we renovate a building. Our Building Dashboard helps us track the real-time energy use of all our campus buildings.

We offer a Sustainability minor and a number of courses within various majors that are sustainability-focused or sustainability-inclusive. Want to get involved? You can do that too! We have many ways for you to join our sustainability movement at UW-Stout.
