
First Year Instructor Program
This yearlong program provides a forum for new tenure-track faculty and instructional academic staff to explore issues that are beyond the scope of the New Instructor Workshop and are characteristic of ongoing teaching responsibilities. It offers 8 or more sessions designed to provide instructors with collegial support, access to seasoned faculty and administrators, and an opportunity to ask questions and network.
Goals:
- Explore and implement effective and inclusive teaching practices
- Acknowledge the responsibilities and expectations of the instructor’s role and duties with the student population, the program, department, university and community culture
- Identify resources that support instructors’ personal and professional lives.
- Utilize strategies to effectively achieve self-identified goals related to teaching, service and research
- Use a variety of mentor-mentee strategies to achieve self-identified goals
- Develop a professional support network, both on and off campus
Participation Requirements:
- Department Chair Approval
- Attendance and monthly face-to-face sessions
- Willingness to engage with PERTS’ Copilot: Ascend Program
Required Sessions: Tuesday 8:30 – 9:25 AM
