Account Activation

New students, applicants and newly hired faculty or staff will need to activate their account before accessing university systems. Account activation creates the credentials (username and password) you'll use to log into campus systems such as the Office 365 productivity suite (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, etc.), Learn@UW-Stout and Access Stout.

Connecting to Campus Wi-Fi

Wireless internet is available to guests of the campus in two broadcasted forms.* 

  • StoutGuest is intended for university guests. It is an unsecured network with limited protocols and data rates. Users will also be required to re-authentic every 4 hours. Guests accessing this network will be required to provide a valid email address. This network is not intended for use by faculty, students and staff.
  • StoutSecure wireless network is the preferred wireless network on campus, as it is faster and the data is encrypted. Sign in to StoutSecure using your UW-Stout username and password.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Some services when used away from the campus network require an active internet connection and a VPN connection to UW-Stout. KeyServer applications, software tutorials, and mapped network drives all require that the user first connects via VPN.
