Artist Statement

4 Months on Match.com was an observational and participatory investigation into the world of online dating. What at first was understood as a social networking tool primarily used to foster and secure physical ‘real-life’ dates, became the alternative reality where artificial correspondences would happen. The physicality of human interactions were reduced to the menial interruptions of daily life by text messages, emails, and updates or notifications from Match.com.

A majority of people I’ve engaged through Match.com were in actuality not looking for a real datable person. This only became apparent with the many failed attempts at meeting. Instead. I was lead to believe that the communication on a daily basis was enough to qualify a relationship. 24 hour chat is an interactive exercise inviting the audience to communicate and interrupt the daily life of the artist for the entirety of the exhibition.
