Effective February 14, 2024, the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stout has partnered with a new vendor for a nation-level background check, Viewpoint Screening.
The WI Department of Public Instruction (DPI) requires that candidates for admission to a teacher education, administration, or pupil services program successfully pass a criminal background check (CBC) as one criterion for admission and no more than 6 months prior to the date of admission. A background check must be on file in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
To have a background check conducted, please go here.
Directions on completing a background check. Packages include:
- Background Check (State & National Background Check)
- Undergraduate Benchmark 1
- Class that has a field experience
- Graduate Program Admission
- Recheck Background Check (State only Background Check)
- Previously passed Undergraduate Benchmark 1, needed for Benchmark 2
There is a fee associated with the background check and will need to be paid with a credit card or prepaid credit card. As a student you can log in at your convenience to obtain a copy of your background check results.
Pass a National Background Check within 6 months of each Benchmark I application (for those applicable programs) – may need more than one background check. To complete a national background check, within Viewpoint Screening choose "Background Check"; do not choose "Recheck Background Check". Background checks are good for three (3) years for other circumstances.
Scott Moore at the University of Wisconsin-Stout will be able to view each student background check as an administrator for Viewpoint. Background checks are reviewed frequently.
The School of Education reserves the right to require additional background checks.
