Our Program

A private art school experience on a public university campus. UW-Stout’s School of Art & Design is located just one hour from the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Our Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art major offers six studio art concentrations:

  • Art Metals
  • Ceramics
  • Contemporary Sculptural Practices
  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Printmaking

The School of Art & Design’s renowned faculty have developed an interdisciplinary curriculum to explore contemporary media. You’ll have access to applied arts studio spaces and labs 18 – 20 hours per day. Our facilities include studio spaces for all advanced students. Other resources include the Furlong Gallery, Gallery 209, process lab, print lab and visual resource center.

Rigorous foundation courses, student residencies, internships and study abroad experiences — along with student organization and juried exhibition opportunities — provide you with many ways to grow as an artist, get involved and prepare for your career. The Studio Art program culminates in a professional practices course and small-group BFA Thesis Exhibition.
