Biology Concentration

Pair a broad foundation in the sciences with advanced biology training in a hands-on student-centered environment.
In this Section

The Biology Concentration (B.S. in Applied Science) offers you a solid foundation in the principles of biology while providing flexibility to pursue upper-level coursework aligned with interests and career goals. You'll benefit from a wide range of hands-on laboratory and fieldwork experiences, as well as opportunities to participate in research with faculty.

Scientists in the field of Biology

  • Solve complex problems involving living systems
  • Work in a laboratory and/or client-oriented environment
  • Pursue graduate studies or the health professions
  • Consult and perform fieldwork

Original Research Experience

You will participate in individually-mentored and classroom-based research experiences that encourage you to develop investigative skills that give you an edge when pursuing careers in industry or applying to graduate and/or professional schools. In addition, there are numerous opportunities to participate in outreach efforts such as Science Olympiad, the Summer STEAM experience, STEPS, and campus garden activities.

Many students in this concentration get involved in student organizations such as the UW-Stout Pre-Health Society, GreenSense, Colleges Against Cancer or one of the other 150+ student organizations.
