Furlong Gallery exhibit opening Sept. 17 to feature 60 artists, 30 from London

Drawing Distinctions, including UW-Stout artists, will move to London in 2019

UW-Stout’s School of Art and Design is collaborating with a group of artists in London to create reciprocal exhibits in the two countries.

Drawing Distinctions will feature 60 artists — 30 from each institution. The UW-Stout artists will include faculty, retired faculty and alumni.

The first show will be at UW-Stout's Furlong Gallery opening Monday, Sept. 17.

Artwork by Gillian Golding of EnglandAn opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19. Clive Burton, of South London, will be on hand. Burton will meet with students and give a talk about his work later in the week.

“The theme and idea behind the exhibition are an attempt to show comparisons across a wide range of drawing practices from a collection of art and design disciplines, hence the title Drawing Distinctions,” Burton said.

“To draw distinctions is to show and underline differences, in this case the different and varied ways of approaching drawing for varying purposes, reasons and concepts,” Burton added.

Furlong's south gallery also will feature prints by Gillian Golding, an English artist who resides and works in France part time. She teaches printmaking at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and is an accomplished painter.

The show will remain up through Monday, Oct. 29.

The second showing of Drawing Distinctions will be in April 2019 at the Old Cello Factory in London.
