Dr. Carrie Wilbert is an Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Counseling at UW-Stout, a Wisconsin polytechnic university known for its hands-on learning and high level of student engagement. She brings to her teaching a diverse professional background as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), and nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter (CI/CT).

Dr. Wilbert teaches fully asynchronous courses designed to support independent learning through structured readings, guided writing activities, and thoughtfully organized module content. She actively encourages students to connect with her one-on-one, offering individualized support, clarification of course concepts, and guidance to help students reach their personal and professional goals. Drawing on her ongoing work as a clinical provider and interpreter, she weaves current, practice-informed insights throughout her courses to help students understand how theory translates into real-world professional skills.

Her research focuses on elevating the experiences of sign language interpreters, with particular attention to the occupational stress, burnout, and systemic challenges they encounter in their work. She is committed to advancing mental health–promoting interventions and strengthening support structures within the interpreting profession. Her scholarship also centers on promoting the lived experiences of marginalized and underrepresented populations, ensuring their voices and perspectives are brought forward in the field. Dr. Wilbert is committed to helping students develop the reflective, evidence-informed, culturally responsive, and advocacy-oriented competencies needed to make an impact in the helping professions.
