HIRING FOR FALL 2024Minimum Qualifications: Student must have at least two semesters of student employment eligibilityCertification in First Aid, CPR & AED or willingness to obtainWilling to obtain a PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor Certification Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Previous experience with outdoor recreation/climbingParticipation in activities and programs offered by Stout AdventuresAbility to work with participants of all agesGood communication skills General Responsibilities: Stout Adventures Climbing Wall Specialists report to the Stout Adventures Student Managers and the Stout Adventures Coordinator. Their responsibilities include the general operation of the Stout Adventures Climbing Wall and Equipment Rental Center. Specific Duties: Attend initial and ongoing training on Stout Adventures operationsCheck climbers in and out of the climbing wall areaMonitor climbers for safe technique and proper behaviorEnforce climbing wall policies, procedures and rulesCare, maintenance, and inspection of climbing wall equipmentManage check out of harnesses, shoes, and belay devices to climbing wall participantsProvide climbing and belay instruction to participantsProvide a belay for participants when necessaryAssist with route settingAssist with the planning of ROCKFEST, Stout Adventures’ annual climbing competition. Work the day of the eventRental of outdoor equipment in a friendly and professional mannerPerform simple maintenance and cleaning on a variety of outdoor equipmentKeep the equipment rental area clean and put away equipment promptlyAttend and participate in training sessions & staff meetingsMaintain an enthusiastic, helpful attitude when working with customersBe knowledgeable about Stout Adventures trips, clinics, programs, and pro-shop items to facilitate salesAll other tasks as assigned Trip Leader (possible add on position- can be discussed during interview) General Responsibilities: Stout Adventures Trip Leaders report to the Stout Adventures Student Managers and the Stout Adventures Coordinator. Trip Leaders have an opportunity to explore the wilderness and develop both hard and soft skills and grow their leadership abilities. Trip Leaders must agree to take on the added responsibility of following and enforcing Stout Adventures policies. Trip Leaders operate under the Stout Adventures name and therefore will adopt the Stout Adventures philosophy of outdoor trip leading. Specific Duties: Attend and participate in trip leader trainings and trip leader meetingsShadow at least two Stout Adventures trips before leadingHave an in-depth understanding of Stout Adventures trip policies and equipmentHelp develop, plan and expand trip offeringsAid in trip participant recruitmentOrganize, plan and execute assigned trips from start to finishResponsible for pre-trip participant communications, equipment packing, and completing all necessary documentationMaintain an enthusiastic, positive attitude on trips and while interacting with participants Learning Outcomes: As a result of being a Stout Adventures employee, students will develop: Self Confidence/AwarenessCommunication/FeedbackProblem Solving/Critical ThinkingTime ManagementResponsibility/Accountability
