Please, note – Grow, Persist, and Succeed (GPS) Program student employment opportunities are intended for first-year, second-year, or new transfer students.The GPS Program is a student focused skill-building program, aiming to impact retention rates of UW-Stout students through career readiness and competency development achieved from campus-based applied learning experiences and intentional 1:1 career coaching and assessment.Students that accept a GPS Program on-campus job will not only get a paid student employment opportunity but will have access to pre- and post-job career assessments and three 1:1 career coaching appointments with a Career Services Career Coach. You will be paid for your orientation, assessment, and 1:1 coaching appointments with a Career Services Career Coach. Please, direct GPS Program questions to Career Services: careerservices@uwstout.edu. This position will provide content creation to UW-Stout journalism professor Dr. Kate Roberts Edenborg. The position will require 3-5 hours a week. Students from any program can apply. Local Journalism Content Creator  In fall 2024, the person in this position will work with the professor on developing local journalism content for the Dunn County and Menomonie community. The student will be expected to write at least 10 stories throughout the academic year. The student will have the opportunity to pitch their own ideas as well as their own ideas regarding the media format they use to share the story. This will help support community efforts to support/strengthen local news sources.In spring 2025, the student continues this work and also do outreach with readers and community members to learn what types of content the region still needs.  The student will gain hands-on experience creating content on deadline, doing interviews, and developing story ideas and having it published and distributed.
