Karith Foster has performed as a stand-up comedian across the country, at such venues as Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” and NBC’s “Today Show” and “Last Comic Standing,” as well as on BET, BRAVO, the Travel Channel and the “Oprah Winfrey Show.”
She’s also a motivational speaker, actress, author and entrepreneur.
Foster will draw from her skills as a humorist and speaker during her presentation of Stereotyped 101 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in room 112 of UW-Stout’s Jarvis Hall Science Wing.
Sponsored by UW-Stout’s Center for the Study of Institutions and Innovation, the event is free and open to the public.
Foster will share stories about and lead dialogue on diversity, specifically how to practice compassion to inspire change. She addresses subjects such as racism, homophobia, classism and others with the goal to prompt listeners to think about their views of the world and each other.
“CSII is bringing a very accomplished speaker and entertainer to campus to support open inquiry and the civil discussion of a hugely important topic for universities and the country,” said Tim Shiell, CSII director. “She also promotes freedom of expression, which supports both the CSII mission and conversations about controversial subjects.”
Foster will lead a question-and-answer session after her talk.
She also does presentations titled You Are Enough, Laughter Bootcamp and You Can Be Perfect or You Can Be Happy. She has been a keynote speaker at universities, institutions and conferences across the country.
Foster, a native of Plano, Texas, is the author of “Laugh Your Way to Happiness: 101 Ways to Have a Great Laugh.” Her CD “Straight Outta Plano” is in rotation on Sirius/XM’s Raw Dog Comedy Channel, according to her website.
