Admission Staff Bio

If you had to change your first name right now, what name would you choose for yourself?
My first name is Nou (pronounced “new”) which translates to the “sun” in the Hmong Language. Although my name is common, there are still a few people who does not know how to pronounce my name or would get it confused when I introduce myself. For example, I used to introduce myself as “Hi, I’m Nou.” But many people may get confused and think that I am saying, “Hi, I’m new (here/to this location).” Now, I specify that “my name is Nou,” so people do not get confused. To decrease the confusion, I would switch my first and middle name and have people call me Stephanie.

Where are you originally from? What high school did you go to?
I was born and raised in Wausau, Wisconsin and attended Wausau West High School. My high school was unique because we were the only school in Wausau that followed the Flexible Modular Schedule. Go Warriors!

What is your favorite thing to do in Menomonie?
I enjoy going to the farmer’s market during the summer. There are a lot of fresh groceries, baked goods, flowers, food and many more at such an affordable price! I also cannot go back home without a fresh Bahn Mi sandwich.

What place outside of the US would you most like to visit? Why?
Maldives or Bora Bora. Being on an island surrounded by the deep clear blue ocean, the sun beaming on my skin, the wind blowing through every strand of my hair, and the sound of waves emerging towards the island sounds so relaxing and peaceful.
