Dr. Medagam is an Assistant Professor specializing in Food Engineering and Food Safety, dedicated to bridging the gap between academic research and real-world industry challenges. A proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a Master’s in Food and Nutritional Sciences, he completed a PhD at NC State focused on innovative antimicrobial edible coatings using UV-C treated gallic acid and chitosan to improve food safety and shelf life.
With hands-on expertise in dairy and egg manufacturing, food quality, and safety management systems, Dr. Medagam strives to develop practical solutions that address real-time industry problems. He is passionate about preparing highly qualified students ready to contribute effectively to the food industry through rigorous teaching, mentorship, and experiential learning.
Dr. Medagam brings a wealth of experience through key leadership roles in quality assurance and food safety management, complemented by active participation in professional organizations such as IFT and Phi Tau Sigma, an honor society for food science professionals and technologists. He has shared his research at leading national and international conferences and remains deeply committed to community service, supporting initiatives in food security and environmental sustainability.
