Alec Selle, food service assistant in University Dining Services, received the University Staff Appreciation Award for May.
The individual nominating Alec stated: “Alec does an amazing job working with the students in the Blue Devil Market. They show extreme patience while training the students yet they also have the ability to be stern enough to hold the students accountable. Alec’s ability to lead the students in the Market helps those busy lunch times run a lot more smoothly! Their leadership abilities ensure the campus population waits less time for their food!”
“Alec has a knack for names. They always know the name of each student on their shift and how to pronounce their names, which is huge in the diverse world of dining. Connecting with students through using their names may seem small, but it’s a pretty big deal as it is a lot of names to keep track of but it helps that student feel like they have a place in dining. Alec is also fantastic at knowing each student’s strengths as well as weaknesses so they can place them in an area where they will be the most successful during peak times and have the ability to learn new things when things are not so busy.”
Each employee of the month receives a certificate of recognition and a gift presented by Chancellor Katherine Frank. The award, in its 19th year, was established by the Chancellor’s Office and is co-sponsored by the University Staff Senate.
