What Our Students Are Saying
"The courses were an eye-opening growing experience and provided a strong foundation for teaching online classes. The expertise of the responsive and supportive instructors was excellent. Online learning made it possible for me to complete a course from my home computer without traveling to campus."
~ K-12 Staff Development Trainer
"I am going to be meeting with our staff development manager to talk about online learning. I plan to push your course hard ... so don't be surprised if you see more MATC staffers in the future. I hope that all of the other student organization advisors in my office take this course. "
~ Milwaukee Area Technical College Faculty
" I wanted to test some of the course management tools out with my current online courses. I knew that my courses needed improvement--with the topics covered in this course I can make those improvements!"
~ Virtual High School Teacher
"I have benefited most from the challenge of the 'hands-on' aspect of the course. I remember taking a course about online learning at UW-Madison that showed us what e-learning looked like. This course at UW-Stout actually has us doing it live. The readings and activities have been practical and thought-provoking."
~ High School Drama Teacher
"I loved the format. I also enjoyed the ability to try and test new tools that I had never even heard of. I liked the feedback and challenges provided by Dennis and his positive supporting nature. This class was amazing. I consider myself quite versed with computer technology, and then I took this course and realized I have so much more to learn. Dennis also does a great job creating a community of learners. I have never felt as connected to my colleagues online until this course. "
~ Corporate Manager
The Collaborative Communities course will help in your development as an online instructor. Every potential online instructor should take this class."
~ High School Biology Teacher
"A wide variety of opportunities to facilitate and participate in class discussions about facilitation. It was well-planned and organized. The instructors were very knowledgeable about the topic.... they modeled excellent facilitation for us."
~ School Library Media Specialist
"I enjoyed the peer feedback process in this class. Everyone was always giving feedback that mattered. You will be creating a website or course management tool for your e-portfolio. If you want to be an online instructor at some point in time, you must take this class because of what you learn about being in charge. I learned what others that already have their own online classes are doing. Because I want to be in this place in the future, I valued this immensely."
~ Middle school teacher"Anyone interested in teaching online would benefit by learning the 70-30 rule and the importance of community building through supportive compassionate facilitation. It was also very helpful to learn strategies to deal with common problems that arise."
