At UW-Stout, Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, we are inspiring innovation.
The School of Art and Design at the University of Wisconsin-Stout has enjoyed a long history of collaboration with highly successful artists, designers, companies and practicing professionals, several of whom are Stout graduates. In an effort to enhance and further develop these relationships, we formed the Professional Advisory Board for the B.F.A. in Art and the M.F.A in Design degree programs. These professionals, who come from coast to coast, provide valuable industry insight so that Stout students receive the education and guidance they need to be successful.
Functions and Concepts
The Professional Advisory Board typically meets once a semester to discuss topics including curriculum, cooperative education/internships, new program development and other important initiatives. The board provides insight, perspective, advice and support from practicing professionals. Students are given the opportunity to meet with these professionals and alumni for reviews of their work, and one-on-one feedback about their progress. This is also an excellent chance for students to network and ask questions about their future career tracks. Professional Advisory Board members are also involved with presentations and panel discussions.
This board includes three professional members from each of the concentrations for a total of fifteen members who serve staggered three-year terms. The board meets as a group with faculty of the School of Art and Design, the campus B.F.A. in Art and M.F.A. in Design Program Advisory Committees and students. Typical on-campus meetings will last one day, and members keep in touch with faculty and students via e-mail for updates and information between meetings.
