Applied Psychology (MSAP) Application Requirements

• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
• GRE scores are preferred, but not required
• Evidence of undergraduate preparation in psychology
  • Minimum of 15 undergraduate psychology semester credits
  • Minimum of 5 semester credits in research methods
  • Minimum of 3 semester credits in statistics
• Demonstration of written communication skills required for success in graduate studies
• A current resume
• Strong letters of recommendation demonstrating professionalism and preparation for graduate studies
• Statement of interest demonstrating appropriate match between your professional goals and the MSAP program

Note: Deficiency in undergraduate course preparation does not preclude admission, but may require additional coursework to complete the degree program. Students who do not meet requirements may be accepted on a provisional basis.

The Application Process

The application process is a two-part system.

1. General Graduate School application [UW System]
2. MSAP-specific application (see below)

Students apply to both the Graduate School and the M.S. in Applied Psychology program.

Note: Specific materials required for each part are found in the sections below.

MSAP Application Materials

Each of the following items must be received by the Psychology Department before a decision will be made on an application.

• A current resume
  
• Writing sample: Either a
  • Research paper or
  • Professional document
• Statement of interest which should include:
  • Why you are interested in the MSAP program
  • How the MSAP aligns with your professional goals
• Three completed candidate recommendation forms  (one must be from a faculty member)
  • Candidate Recommendation Form [PDF]
  • Additional letters of support from references are welcome but not required
• Completion of the MSAP candidate application form:

• Official undergraduate transcripts need only be submitted once to the Graduate School office

Priority Deadline: February 1
Students will only be admitted in the fall semester. Applications received after deadline will be accepted on a space allowable basis i.e. if there are openings still available in the term in which you are applying you may still be admitted.
