Brief Biography

Vickie Sanchez coordinates Summer PreCollege and Stoutward Bound Learning/Living Community in the Office of Multicultural Student Services. Originally from Milwaukee, she ventured to Minnesota to earn her B.S. degree in Communication Studies from Winona State University. After graduation she lived and worked in the Twin Cities until she found her passion in higher education. She left the cities to earn a Ms.Ed degree in Student Affairs Administration from UW-La Crosse. Vickie will be celebrating 10 years working within the University of Wisconsin System August of 2016.

Research Interests: Surviving a Predominately White Institution as a Minority on Campus

Roles/Responsibilities

Responsible for coordinating PreCollege, Early Bridge and Living/Learning Community programs and other related programming to support the retention and graduation of racial/ethnic minority students.  Coordinate marketing and recruitment materials for PreCollege, Early Bridge, and Learning Community and outreach for recruitment of these programs with high school, prospective and current college students.  Collaborate with university staff and faculty to develop innovative PreCollege programs, workshops, campus visits and other projects.  Recruit, hire, train and supervise student staff for PreCollege and Early Bridge programs.  Evaluate programs by designing assessment tools and gathering and analyzing data to determine program effectiveness.  Serve as an advisor to Early Bridge and minority student case load in cultural identity development, academic, personal, cultural and financial support.  Assist with Lawton Scholarship recipients by meeting and insuring participation requirements is fulfilled.  Utilize the university documentation system to track all student contacts and assist with program management.  Student Organization Advisor to Latinos Unidos and Black Student Union
