She is also the science education consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and recently edited the Guide for Planning Curriculum in Science, Wisconsin’s Model Academic Standards for Science, the Wisconsin Student Assessment System Criterion-Referenced Assessment Framework for Science and the Grade Level Foundations for Science.

As science education consultant, she is responsible for assisting teachers, districts, and universities around the state with implementing science curriculum reform, and she is involved in numerous Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives at the state and national level.

She actively has served on the National Science Teachers Association board of directors in many capacities including President in 1995-96 and prior to that as the Middle Level Division Director. Recently, NSTA recognized her contributions to science education with the Distinguished Service to Science Education award.

Shelley has 35 years of educational experiences and began her career as a science teacher in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. In addition to teaching, she was the district’s science department chair, a professional development leader, and was awarded the district’s teacher of the year.

She earned her undergraduate degree in science and science education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and completed her master’s degree and the certificate in E-Learning and Online Teaching at University of Wisconsin – Stout.
