Scholarship students must meet the NSF S-STEM requirements for citizenship,
major, academic potential, and need. Students must be citizens of the United
States, nationals of the United States (as defined in section 101(a) of the
Immigration and Nationality Act), aliens admitted as refugees under section
207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to
the United States for permanent residence.
Students must furthermore demonstrate financial need, defined for
undergraduate students by the US Department of Education rules for
need-based Federal financial aid.
They must also be enrolled full time (12 credits) in a degree program at the
baccalaureate level in the Applied Science Program; enrollment must be
full-time for each semester a student receives a scholarship.
Eligibility
ASFL scholarships are specifically for people whose representation in science and engineering is less than their representation in the population: south-east Asians, blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans, including American Indians, Alaskan Natives and Pacific Islanders. ASFL Scholars will have the opportunity to participate in the 2010 Stoutward Bound Summer Bridge Program.
All Applied Science NSF S‐STEM Scholarship winners will participate in the Applied Science Scholar Community. As members, students will:
Meet with their designated advisor on a bi‐monthly
basis
Attend the Applied Science Scholars monthly meetings
Partner with one advanced Applied Science Scholar who will act as peer
mentor
Act as a peer mentor during second year in the program
Participate in service learning projects that improve and enrich their
lives as well as support their community
Pursue involvement in undergraduate research
Disseminate the results of their work at regional, national and
international forums
Interact with industry and academic leaders.

March 5, 2010: Applied Science NSF S-STEM
Invitational.
Applicants who demonstrate academic promise and a commitment to Applied
Science will be invited to the Applied Science NSF S-STEM Invitational
on March 5 , 2010. This is an opportunity for applicants and their families to
learn more about the Applied Science Program and UW-Stout. Applicants will
also be interviewed by members of the review committee to determine interest
and commitment in completing a B.S. degree in Applied Science.

March 15, 2010: Notification of
Scholarship Results.
All Applied Science NSF S-STEM Invitational attendees will be notified by
the week of March 15, 2010 about scholarship results.
