Scholarship students must meet the NSF S-STEM requirements for citizenship, major, academic potential, and need. Students must be citizens of the United States, nationals of the United States (as defined in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), aliens admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence. 

Students must furthermore demonstrate financial need, defined for undergraduate students by the US Department of Education rules for need-based Federal financial aid. 

They must also be enrolled full time (12 credits) in a degree program at the baccalaureate level in the Applied Science Program; enrollment must be full-time for each semester a student receives a scholarship.

Eligibility

ASFL scholarships are specifically for people whose representation in science and engineering is less than their representation in the population: south-east Asians, blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans, including American Indians, Alaskan Natives and Pacific Islanders. ASFL Scholars will have the opportunity to participate in the 2010 Stoutward Bound Summer Bridge Program.

Are you interested in pursuing an education in the Applied Sciences?
 

 

NSF S-STEM Scholarships  will be awarded to eligible students in the UW-Stout Applied Science Program starting in the fall 2010 academic year.

 

 

These scholarships will be awarded to 5 current or articulating Applied Science students.  Recipients will be awarded a maximum of $5,000 or their FAFSA estimated “financial need”, whichever is less.

The scholarship is not renewable.
 





How to Apply:

1.   Before January 30, 2010 download and complete the STEM STARS application form (Mailing directions can be found on the form).

2.   Highly ranked applicants will be interviewed by members of the review committee to determine interest and commitment in completing a B.S. degree in Applied Science.
 

3.   March 15, 2010: Notification of Scholarship Results.
 

Applied Science Future Leader (ASFL) Scholarships

STEM Stars Scholarships

 

These scholarships will be awarded to 10 incoming freshmen students from underrepresented minority groups entering the Applied Science Program.  These scholarships will support recipients’ unmet financial need (up to $10,000/FAFSA based) for four years ($40,000 maximum award).

The scholarship is renewable but not guaranteed.  To maintain eligibility for ASFL scholarships, students must remain in good academic standing and have achieved a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and demonstrated participation in required program activities. 
 

How to Apply:

1.   Before January 30, 2010 apply to UW-Stout for the fall 2010 semester.

2.   March 5, 2010:  Applied Science NSF S-STEM Invitational. 
Applicants who demonstrate academic promise and a commitment to Applied Science will be invited to the Applied Science NSF S-STEM Invitational on March 5 , 2010.  This is an opportunity for applicants and their families to learn more about the Applied Science Program and UW-Stout.  Applicants will also be interviewed by members of the review committee to determine interest and commitment in completing a B.S. degree in Applied Science.

3.  March 15, 2010: Notification of Scholarship Results.
All Applied Science NSF S-STEM Invitational attendees will be notified by the week of March 15, 2010 about scholarship results.
