Emily attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Elementary Education major and Reading and Language Arts minor. Emily completed her graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, with a Master of Science in Teaching (MST), Reading. Emily is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education (Ed.D), Educational Leadership, Critical Pedagogy focus, from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Research Interests

Emily is working on her dissertation research on teacher perceptions of the Common Core State Standards. Emily is excited to teach, collaborate, and learn with students in the reading certification courses at University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Professional Experience

Emily has taught Pre-K through twelfth grades in the Chippewa Valley (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) since 2000.  As a classroom teacher, Emily taught 2ndand 3rd grades for eight years and was a literacy coach/reading specialist/reading teacher for three years.  Emily has been an active member of local (Eau Claire Area Reading Council), state (Wisconsin State Reading Association), and international reading (International Reading Association) associations.  Emily served a three-year term as President and Vice-President of the Eau Claire Area Reading Council, 2006-2009.

Personal Interests

In her free time, Emily enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband, Barry, and son, Huck, as well as family and friends.GO BLUE DEVILS!!
