The Young Driver Attitude Scale (YDAS) and the computer-based versions were both developed under sponsership of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. The YDAS was developed by a team of researchers from the Safety Research and Education Project at Columbia University by James L. Malfetti, Ed.D., Director, P. Rose, Ed.D., N. DeKorp, Ed.D., and C. Basch, Ph.D.
The YDAS is a set of 70 statements designed to measure 7 key attitudes or behaviors commonly exhibited by young drivers. Each young driver records how he or she feels about the statements, agreeing or disagreeing with each. A high score indicates "high risk" attitudes toward driving. It will take 15 to 20 minutes to take the self-assessment. A booklet which outlines the manual as well as computer-based administration of this assessment process should be acquired from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
