Biography

Erik Evensen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design, where he primarily teaches courses in design foundations and design drawing. Additionally, he coordinates the interdisciplinary Color Specialization, advises in the Graphic Design BFA program, and is a member of the graduate faculty. Before coming to UW–Stout in 2013, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Design at Ohio State University. He also serves on the Advisory Board for the Department of Technology, Art, and Design at Bemidji State University.

Professor Evensen's professional experience began in the greater Boston area, and includes over 10 years as a graphic designer, illustrator, and design draftsman. His work is often interdisciplinary, and has been recognized by Graphic Design USA. A graphic novelist, his books have been called “innovative and groundbreaking” by Graphic Novel Reporter, “a thrill” by Ain't It Cool News, and “both literate and entertaining” by Geeks of Doom. He is the author/illustrator of The Beast of Wolfe’s Bay, the Xeric-winning Gods of Asgard, and illustrator of Super-powered Word Study. His work has also appeared in Ghostbusters from IDW Comics.

His research and creative scholarship is focused on design for information delivery, and how that can fulfill educational objectives through tabletop games and comics. He is the author of several related articles and has published and presented his research in national and international venues. Most recently, he authored a case study chapter in Convivial Toolbox: Generative Research for the Front End of Design, a design research textbook by Liz Sanders and Pieter Jan Stappers.
