Doug Mell

Doug MellExecutive Director of University Communications
and External Relations

Doug Mell serves as the executive director of University Communications and External Relations at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, a position he has held since October 2006. Mell directs University Communications, which provides information for the public on UW-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University. The office works with the news media to develop stories on UW-Stout events and the accomplishments of its students, faculty and staff, is responsible for all internal campus communications, and oversees the official social media platforms. Mell helps develop marketing and website strategy. Mell is responsible for liaison activities with the state Legislature, other state and local officials and the community. He serves on the Chancellor’s Cabinet and is the official spokesperson for the university. Before coming to UW-Stout, Mell had a 16-year career at the Eau Claire (Wis.) Leader-Telegram as city editor and managing editor. He was a reporter for the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison, Wis., for 10 years.

Jerry Poling

Jerry PolingAssistant Director of University Communications

Poling provides external and internal communications services, including working with the media and writing news releases and media advisories. Writing duties include: weekly Media Tip Sheet, annual Outlook magazine and biannual e-Outlook electronic newsletters for alumni, commencement day e-newsletters, and annual StoutQuest campus research magazine. He provides content and helps manage the university's official Facebook page and other social media.

Don Steffen


University Editor

As UW-Stout’s University Editor, Steffen works closely with other departments to update the content of campuswide publications, including undergraduate and graduate course bulletins, admissions marketing materials and academic program websites. As university editor, he also assists university departments with their publication needs in cooperation with University Marketing, though priority is given to campuswide publications.

Carole Jean Baier

Carol Jean BaierOperations Program Associate

Baier provides overall program and administrative support for University Communications. She shares responsibilities for all aspects of UW-Stout Today, the university’s daily email, and communications inbox inquiries. Baier is specifically responsible for the department's budget, purchasing and other financial matters, as well as travel and meeting arrangements and other office logistics.

Rachel Hallgrimson

Rachel HallgrimsonSocial Media and Video Coordinator

Hallgrimson works with the Assistant Director of Communications to ensure UW-Stout’s official social media platforms are engaging, timely, and useful for all of UW-Stout’s stakeholders, provides video coverage of campus news and events for UW-Stout's online audience and performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Communications.

Brett Roseman

Brett RosemanUniversity Photographer

Roseman provides news and marketing related photography and video for University Communications and University Marketing, as well as for strategic projects throughout the university. He also assists with maintaining a campus image database and various image-based social media sites.
