Frequently Asked Questions Regarding National Rural Institute on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Scholarships

What does the scholarship include?

If you are awarded a full scholarship, tuition, room (double occupancy) and board is covered. Partial scholarships will be awarded to those individuals who do not stay and/or eat on campus or where funds are limited and partial awards may benefit more individuals.

Do I have to have a roommate if I’m awarded a full scholarship?

You can choose to stay in a single room. However, your scholarship does not include the $45 fee to have a single room for the week.

Can I stay Saturday night if I’m awarded a scholarship?

Yes, you can still choose to arrive on Saturday. However, your scholarship does not include the $17 (double occupancy) or the $22 (single occupancy).

Can I stay in a hotel if I’m awarded a scholarship?

Yes, you can stay in a hotel.  However, your scholarship does not cover staying at a hotel. Your tuition for the program and on-campus meals (if you choose) will be covered by the scholarship.

Do any scholarships include money for travel?

Most of the scholarships do not include reimbursements for travel. The Scaife Family Foundation and Department of Justice scholarships may include up to a $500 travel stipend. Specific instructions on how to get reimbursed will be provided in your scholarship award letter.

How are scholarship amounts determined?

Scholarships are awarded at full capacities if at all possible. In some instances the awarding of a partial scholarship will be made to allow more people to benefit and receive assistance with conference registration fees.

What if I’m awarded a partial scholarship and I really need a full scholarship to be able to attend the National Rural Institute on Alcohol and Drug Abuse?

Send us a return e-mail to your scholarship award letter or give us a phone call to let us know about your specific situation. We will do what we can to find more scholarship money so that you can attend. 

How do I know if I receive a scholarship?

Once we have reviewed your registration form and scholarship application for the National Rural Institute on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, an email (mail if you do not have email availability) will be sent to you to let you know that you have received a scholarship. You MUST let us know that you accept the scholarship (in writing- email is acceptable as well) before you will be officially registered for the National Rural Institute on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Failure to accept the scholarship will result in non-registration to the National Rural Institute on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the scholarship will be awarded to someone else.

What happens if I accept the scholarship and I cannot attend the National Rural Institute on Alcohol and Drug Abuse?

As soon as you know that you will not able to attend the National Rural Institute on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, please let us know in writing (email, fax or mail is acceptable).  We can award the scholarship to another participant. If you accept a scholarship and do not notify us prior to May 25, 2012 (in writing) that you will not be attending the conference, you will be ineligible for future scholarships and will be held responsible for any costs incurred.
