iStrive is a 10-week cognitive behavioral program utilizing a curriculum designed by University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute (UCCI) and customized for individuals with disabilities. iStrive integrates cognitive-behavioral interventions with motivational enhancement to assist with cognitive, social, emotional, and coping skill development for the work environment. Peckham collaborated with UCCI to customize the curriculum and piloted it in Flint, MI in 2020 through a grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation. The program expanded to Lansing, MI in 2021. Faculty from the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling at Michigan State University are conducting a formal program evaluation which will conclude in December, 2022.
Meet the Presenters:
Sarah is the Director of Mission Initiatives at Peckham. She has worked at Peckham since 1999. During her time at Peckham, Sarah has provided leadership and professional development to the vocational rehabilitation services team responsible for eligibility, on-boarding, career development and employee relations for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment working for Peckham’s social enterprises. In her current role, she provides strategic thinking and clinical expertise in the design, implementation and evaluation of programs and services that support Peckham’s mission. She also provides training, consultation and support for Peckham staff in delivering Peckham’s mission. Sarah is passionate about workforce inclusion and mental health. She is a Mental Health First Aid Instructor and Michigan ACE Community Champion. Sarah earned her Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from Michigan State University and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.
Katie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, earning her BSW from Adrian College and MSW from Western Michigan University. She is currently the Cognitive Behavioral Interventions Facilitator at Peckham. During her time at Peckham, Katie has provided support to team members in various business lines as a Vocational Services Specialist providing job training, barrier reduction, and classes for various emotional regulation needs. Since 2020, she began a new role of facilitating the iStrive Program, a Cognitive Behavioral Interventions program focusing on developing work skills for success. Katie is also passionate about grief support and education and has provided support to team members and staff during her time at Peckham as well as outside of her role.
