Additional forums scheduled to solicit input on next chancellor

January 24, 2014

The search and screen committee that will help select the next chancellor at University of Wisconsin-Stout has scheduled three additional community forums.

The first forum was Thursday night at the Menomonie Public Library. Upcoming forums are:

  • From 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in the RCU room of Chippewa Valley Technical College, 620 W. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire.
  • From 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 27, at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College/UW-Barron Conference Center, Rice Lake.
  • From 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Menomonie Public Library.

Petre (Nelu) GhenciuPetre (Nelu) Ghenciu, search committee chair, said the forums are intended to discuss what qualities community members would like to see in the next UW-Stout leader. Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen has announced he is retiring Aug. 15 after 26 years in the position.

"It is very important that search committee members hear from a wide variety of people about what qualities we should be looking for in the next chancellor," said Ghenciu, associate professor in the mathematics department."We are having a number of forums on campus, in Menomonie and in the region to make sure we hear from everyone who has a stake in UW-Stout."

The 21-member search and screen committee is expected to recommend five candidates as finalists to be considered by the UW System president and a special Board of Regents Committee. One finalist will be presented to the full Board of Regents for a confirmation vote in June.

System officials have said they want the committee's work to be completed by the end of May so a new chancellor can be in place when Sorensen leaves.

A chancellor search website has been established.
