Workshop, conference address raising children with disabilities

A workshop Friday, Oct. 25, and conference Saturday, Oct. 26, at UW-Stout will highlight issues related to raising children with disabilities.

Both events are free.

Janice FialkaJanice Fialka will present "The Dance of Partnership: Why Do My Feet Hurt? Strengthening the Parent Professional Partnership," from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Memorial Student Center. She is a nationally recognized lecturer, author and advocate on the subject.

On Saturday, the Keys to Success Conference will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the student center. Fialka will be the keynote speaker.

In addition, about 20 other speakers are scheduled. They include parents as well as state and regional professionals discussing topics of interest to caregivers, educators and service providers for children and students with disabilities from age three to 21.

The conference is sponsored by the Wisconsin Statewide Parent Educator Initiative in collaboration with the Wisconsin FACETS Parent Resource Center, UW-Stout, the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls school districts and local and state agencies.
