September 23, 2013

UW-Stout has been named a Military Friendly school for the fourth year in a row.

Victory Media has announced its 2013-14 Military Friendly list honoring the top 20 percent of 12,000 Veterans Administration-approved colleges, universities and trade schools that are "doing the most to embrace America's military service members and veterans as students."

Military Friendly 2014 logoSchools making the list offer scholarships, discounts, veterans clubs, full-time staff, military credit and other services to those who serve. All UW System schools and many private colleges and universities from Wisconsin made the list.

About 320 veterans are enrolled at UW-Stout, which has a veterans committee, a veterans club and an Army ROTC program. Also, there is a veterans Web page. Under one of the Web page's tabs, veterans can find more than 80 types of military jobs matched with majors at UW-Stout.

This year UW-Stout has its first full-time military education benefits coordinator, John Bensend. He can be reached at 715-232-1659. He is a staff sergeant in the Wisconsin National Guard.

"Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools shows UW-Stout's commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students," said Sean Collins, vice president at Victory Media, which announced the list and oversees its publication in G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse and other publications.
