University's enrollment numbers increase significantly

September 20, 2013

Enrollment at University of Wisconsin-Stout is up over last year and has jumped 5 percent since 2008, according to statistics the university released Friday.

All campuses in the UW System are required to compile enrollment numbers on the 10th day of classes each academic year. UW-Stout's 10th day enrollment was 9,226 compared with 9,158 last year. The preliminary enrollment has increased steadily since 2008, when it was 8,800.

"We had a plan to steadily increase our enrollment, and we are on course to accomplish our goals," said Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen. "Prospective students and their parents realize that UW-Stout is offering undergraduate majors that will lead to rewarding careers. That is an important message in these challenging economic times."

Sorensen was referring to UW-Stout's consistently high employment rate for new graduates. The rate was 97.3 percent for the 2011-12 graduates, with 28 of the 44 undergraduate majors reporting 100 percent employment. The next employment report for the 2012-13 class will be released after the first of the year.

Sorensen said the enrollment numbers are particularly impressive given that UW-Stout, Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, graduated a record number of students, 2,001, in 2012-13.
