Golf enterprise program to benefit from state event

The golf enterprise management program at University of Wisconsin-Stout will be one of the beneficiaries of a state golf event.

The President's Cup, an 18-hole scramble format tournament, will be held Wednesday, June 26, at House on the Rock Resort near Spring Green.

The tournament is sponsored by the Golf Course Owners of Wisconsin.Proceeds from the event will help provide scholarships to golf management students at UW-Stout and Southwest Technical College of Fennimore.

Students from UW-Stout and Southwest Tech also will help run the event. Southwest Tech students will work at the President's Cup this year and in 2014 followed by UW-Stout students in 2015 and 2016, with the schools possibly rotating duties in future years.

Southwest Tech offers a golf course management associate degree, with a bachelor's degree-completion option at UW-Stout.

Students in UW-Stout's program are part of the School of Hospitality Leadership. They take courses in all aspects of golf course management. The Bachelor of Science program is endorsed by the National Golf Course Owners Association.
