August 27, 2012

The Ministry, a partnership of the Newman Catholic and Lutheran campus ministries, has moved to its new location on the Clock Tower Plaza next to Harvey Hall. An open house and ribbon cutting will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday. The ribbon cutting will take place at 5 p.m.

The event will include tours, wine and cheese and a photo presentation.

The MinistryThe newly remodeled site will continue to be available for students, faculty and staff for their religious and spiritual needs. “We hope to be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week,” explained Tim Schroeder, Lutheran campus ministry coordinator.

With a fireplace, lounge area, free coffee and Wi-Fi, the facility is designed to have a coffee house, homelike atmosphere. A recreation room was added in the basement, with ping pong, foosball and pool tables. “We had 120 volunteers do more than 2,000 hours of work,” Schroeder said.

Dinner and discussion is held Mondays by Lutheran Campus Ministry and Thursdays by the Catholic Newman community. Meals are free and discussions are led by students or community members. “These evenings offer a time to reflect and grow in your faith,” Schroeder said.

The Ministry offers other activities during the year, such as retreats and service trips.

It previously was located on north campus at the Blue House.

The Ministry staff also includes: the Rev. Kurt Larson, Lutheran; Newman Director Christine Warloski, the Rev. Thomas Krieg, Newman; and Kathy Lipke, office manager.
