Author-illustrator Eliza Wheeler busy working on new books

Eliza WheelerEliza Wheeler, a 2006 University of Wisconsin-Stout art graduate, is continuing to build on the success of her first children's book.

Wheeler wrote and illustrated "Miss Maple's Seeds" (Nancy Paulsen/Penguin Books), which made it to a New York Times best-seller list in spring 2013.

Since then Wheeler has been busy illustrating several other books.

She created the artwork for author Holly Black's "Doll Bones," which won a prestigious Newbery award in January. The book was published by Simon and Schuster.

In April, Wheeler's illustrations came out in Mara Rockliff's "The Grudge Keeper." The book has received several strong reviews, Wheeler said.

Wheeler recently signed a four-book deal to illustrate a preteen series called "Cody," by Tricia Springstubb.

In addition she is illustrating a new Penguin picture book, "Our Baby," by Varja Bajaj along with "Tell Me a Tattoo Story" by Alison McGee for Chronicle Books.

Wheeler, a Wisconsin native from Solon Springs, lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Adam, who is a UW-Stout alumnus as well.
