Two FCCLA Stars competitions scheduled this week on campus

More than 200 middle school and high school students from around the region are scheduled to compete Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 19-20, in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Stars regional conferences at UW-Stout.

The Region 2 event will be Wednesday. Region 2 schools include Alma Center, Augusta, Boyceville, Colfax, Durand, Eleva-Strum, Eau Claire Memorial, Eau Claire North, Eau Claire Delong Middle School, Menomonie middle and high school, Thorp and Whitehall.

FCCLA logoThe Region 1 Southern Half event will be Thursday. Schools include Amery, Bruce, Cameron, Clayton, Clear Lake, Baldwin-Woodville, Barron, Osceola, Rice Lake, St. Croix Falls and Unity.

The daylong events will be held at the Memorial Student Center and Heritage Hall.

Competition categories include culinary creations, focus on children, recycle and redesign, professional speaking, life event planning, job interview, applied technology and many more. Winners will advance to the state competition March 31 to April 2 in Wisconsin Dells.

Area students also will attend workshops and hear speakers.

UW-Stout students from the family and consumer sciences education program, led by program director Diane Klemme, will volunteer with the competitions and conference, along with area consumer sciences teachers and local professionals.

The event is co-sponsored by the Stout Community Association for Career and Technical Education.

February is Career and Technical Education Month. UW-Stout offers bachelor, master's, education specialist and doctorate degrees in career and technical education.
