Duex named director of University Housing

September 9, 2013

Duex will manage all functions of the department, which serves 3,000 students, supervises 200 full- and part-time employees and administers an $11 million budget.

Duex brings leadership and extensive experience in student affairs to the role. After holding student-centered positions at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa; Edgewood College in Madison; and UW-Whitewater, the Oconto Falls native joined UW-River Falls in 2007, serving as director of Residence Life and Student Rights and Responsibilities.

Sandra Scott Duex"I’m excited to be here. I really wasn’t looking to leave River Falls, but the reputation of UW-Stout and its housing department made this a great move for me,” Duex said. "We have outstanding staff at University Housing, and I’m looking forward to collaborating with them to ensure that our students find a second home here and have the support they need to succeed.

“I also look forward to spending my first few months gaining a better understanding of housing operations at UW-Stout, developing relationships with staff and students and exploring key priorities for my staff and me to focus on in the upcoming year,” Duex added.

Duex, who also serves on the executive board of the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International, takes over University Housing leadership following former director Scott Griesbach’s selection as executive director of Student Life Services at UW-Stout.

“Sandi has quite a wide-ranging background not only in University Housing but also in teaching, leadership, facilities planning, construction and staff supervision,” Griesbach said. “We are fortunate to have been successful in attracting someone with Sandi’s breadth of experience to lead University Housing into the future.”

Duex’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and a Master of Science degree in management from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. She also has extensive training in leadership, coalition building and conflict resolution.
