Some of the activities this week are:
- Meet Menomonie: Dozens of local businesses and nonprofit organizations will have booths at the annual event for students from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the Multipurpose Room of the Sports and Fitness Center. The event, primarily to introduce new students to local merchants, is coordinated by the Greater Menomonie Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition to learning about local businesses, students can register for prizes, sample food and pick up information and gifts
- Laptop rollout: The eStout laptop computer rollout for new students begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center. Every incoming freshman receives a laptop from the university loaded with software programs, providing a campuswide digital learning environment. About 3,000 computers will be distributed and updated, the latter for some returning students, to start the semester. The cost of the laptops is included in student fees charged per semester.
- Backyard Bash: From 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, students are invited to the annual picnic sponsored by the Involvement Center. The event includes free food and live music on the lawn south of the Memorial Student Center.
- Football season opener: The Blue Devils football team opens the season at home with a 1 p.m. game Saturday at Williams Stadium against Dakota Wesleyan.
