Nearly 800 to receive diplomas at winter commencement

A total of 674 undergraduates and 98 graduate students will receive degrees at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. ceremonies.The morning ceremony will be for graduates from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; College of Management; and Graduate School.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will be for graduates from the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences; College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; and Graduate School.

CommencementUW-Stout Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen will address the undergraduates and confer degrees. Deans of the various colleges will present diplomas. Joseph Bessie, provost and vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, will preside over the ceremonies. Mark Parsons, vice chancellor for University Advancement and Marketing, will welcome the graduates into the Stout Alumni Association.

Music will be provided by the university band, directed by Aaron M. Durst. Choral selections will be performed by the Chamber Choir, directed by Jerry Hui.

Doors open 45 minutes before each ceremony. Graduates should arrive no less than 45 minutes before their ceremony. Undergraduate programs are expected to last from 1½ to 2 hours.

Receptions will immediately follow in room 50 of the Sports and Fitness Center. All graduates and guests are welcome.

Tickets are required for ages 3 and older. Graduates each will receive five tickets, which can be picked up in room 224 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Building, 221 10th Ave. E.

The ceremonies also can be viewed on a closed circuit projection screen at the Terrace of the Memorial Student Center or via live feed from the UW-Stout commencement website.

Parking will be available in any UW-Stout lot.

At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the James Huff Stout bell in the Bowman Hall Clock Tower will toll 26 times in remembrance of the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting Dec. 14, 2012, in Newtown, Conn.
