Chikthimmah top graduate instructor; faculty, staff recognized

The winners will receive the awards Monday, Aug. 26, during an address by Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen to begin the 2013-14 academic year.

Naveen Chikthimmah, an assistant professor in the food and nutrition department, has been named the 2012-13 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award winner.

Naveen ChikthimmahChikthimmah is director of the food science undergraduate program and also teaches in the food and nutritional sciences master's program. He was selected by students for his enthusiasm and assistance and for his commitment to teaching and food science.

"Dr. Chikthimmah is a consummate professional and scholar. He is attentive to students, advises many student theses, is actively engaged in research and works tirelessly to make continuous improvements to the programs," said Jackie Weissenburger, associate vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.

"His positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile to meet the needs of graduate students makes him highly deserving of this award," she added.

Eight faculty will receive the Outstanding Teaching Award:

Paul Anheier, English and philosophy

Dave Beck, School of Art and Design

Michael Bessert, biology

Melody Brennan, School of Education

Seth Dutter, mathematics

Nancy Flyen, business

Seujung Han, psychology

Paul Lokken, business

Three staff members will receive the Outstanding Service Award:

Amy Gullixson, Customized Instruction Online Professional Development

Colleen Davis, Counseling Center

Darci Ward, Registration and Records

The Outstanding Service Office Award will be given to the office of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
