The University Library's Circulation services are located on the 1st Floor interior lobby of the Robert S. Swanson Learning Center.

Check Out Materials

Library resources to be used outside the University Library must be checked out with a UW-Stout ID card or library-issued community user card.

Equipment must be renewed in person. Non-equipment library resources may be renewed by phone at 715/232-1215, in person, or online:

  • Start at Library Home Page
  • Click on General Information
  • Select Renew books/My Accounts
  • Login with your common username and password.
  • Place a check by each item to be renewed. Note: Items with a "Lost" status must be returned to the Library.
  • Click Request Renewal button

Copiers and Microform Reader/Printers

Need assistance with copiers and microform reader/printers? Circulation staff will help.

Need assistance with locating a library resource that seems to be missing? Circulation staff will help locate it.

Your courtesy with returning items on time is appreciated. Keeping library resources beyond due dates prevents fellow library users from accessing that information. Overdue fees, ranging from $10 to $15 per day, will be assessed for items kept beyond due dates. Additionally, item replacement costs (includes high-cost equipment) will be assessed if there is no response to overdue fees.

Book Returns

  • Indoor: Two returns are located at the Circulation Desk.
  • Outdoor:
    • Under the east window at the front entrance of the library. This return is for books and media.
    • Equipment must be returned in person to the Circulation Desk one hour before closing time.

Video Booking

Instructors may arrange to have videos held for use in class presentations. Please submit online via the Video Booking Request form a minimum of two weeks prior to the planned pick-up date.

Proxy for Faculty Checkout

  • Faculty and academic staff at UW-Stout may authorize another UW-Stout person, such as a student assistant or a department program assistant, to be a proxy.
  • Persons with proxy permission use their own UW-Stout ID cards to check out library items to the authorized faculty or academic staff member.
  • The Proxy Patron Authorization form can be printed, completed, and routed to Circulation--it cannot be submitted online.
