Personal Safety

Your personal security starts with your room door. Student rooms should be locked when both occupants are gone or are sleeping. Carry your keys with you at all times. Do not leave your key in the door lock. Door viewers in each room door provide residents with a clear view of the corridor without opening the door.

The University is not responsible for personal possessions; consequently, residents are encouraged to have fire and theft insurance for their belongings. Report all thefts to University Housing Staff and University Police immediately. Although the University is not responsible for stolen property, all thefts will be investigated.

Residents are encouraged to politely confront strangers on their floor community to assist in maintaining the safety and security of all floor members. Report any unauthorized or suspicious persons to the front desk personnel.

Side doors to residence halls are locked at no later than 11:00 p.m. Do not use the side entrances to exit after they are locked. Do not prop open outside doors; doing so endangers your own security.

For additional security information please see the University Police home page.
