Facilities Assistant

The Facilities Assistant (FA) is an integral student staff position in University Housing and supports the mission of University Housing by contributing to creating a safe, clean and comfortable living environment.  FAs supports University Housing sustainability initiatives and also assist with reducing the potential risk of hazardous sidewalks and entry-ways following a snowstorm.

 

 

Job Description

FAs do this by performing the following functions:

  • Daily collecting all recycling and composting and placing outside the residence halls in pre-determined location.
  • Every other weekend, removing all recycling, garbage and composting from the halls on a regular schedule and placing in a pre-determined location.
  • Assuming responsibility for snow removal in assigned locations on nights and every other weekend.
  • Engaging every other weekend in light custodial weekend work, including vacuuming lobbies and common areas.
As this is a new position in University Housing, the position will initially be a minimum 6 hour per week employment position, with the possibility of increasing to 8 to 10 hours once a schedule has been established.  Additionally, there will be more hours during snow events. FAs must live on campus.  When possible, FAs will be hired for the building in which they currently reside.

 

 

Skills and Position Requirements

The FA position requires the following required skill set:

  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision
  • Ability to successfully complete tasks that are assigned
  • Basic communication skills, including the ability to successfully understand job expectations
  • Ability to lift, without difficulty, forty pounds
  • Ability to work outside in cold weather without difficulty
  • Willingness to receive training to operate light machinery (snow blower) equipment
Additionally, the FA will need to be available to perform their job responsibilities every other weekend.
