UW-Stout Graduate Assistantships (GAs) are paid positions where you have the opportunity to acquire professional experiences.

Things to know:

  • The process for finding a Graduate Assistantships position at Stout is a bit different than on some campuses. Assistantships are offered by academic programs and administrative units; the process of finding one is much like finding any other kind of employment. 
  • Graduate Assistantships appointments of at least .33 FTE include health benefits.
  • UW-Stout Graduate Assistantships do not include a tuition waiver.  However, non-resident students who hold at least a .33 assistantship appointment are not charged the non-resident portion of tuition.
  • Pay is set yearly by the University of Wisconsin system. Read the current Pay Chart for Graduate Assistants.
  • Assistantships are:
    • considered a form of financial aid.
    • typically filled on an academic year basis although some may be for one semester or a partial semester only.

 

Assistantship Titles

Graduate Program or Project Assistant: This title designates a graduate student employed to assist with research, training or other academic programs or projects.

Graduate Assistant
: This title designates a graduate student who teaches in a classroom or laboratory in an instructional department.
