Vickie Sanchez was raised in Milwaukee and understands the struggle of leaving home for the first time as a first-generation college student from a low-income environment. Vickie earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and Political Science from Winona State University in Minnesota. After graduation, Vickie worked in the Twin Cities for five years until she found her true passion in higher education. She left the Twin Cities to earn a masters degree in Student Affairs Administration from UW-La Crosse and worked as a multicultural recruiter before moving to Menomonie in 2011. Vickie coordinates S.T.A.R Scholars (Students Thriving in Academic Resilience) Learning Community, Stoutward Bound Living Community and Students With a Goal (SWAG) Living Community. She also advises many individual students and the Latinos Unidos and Black Student Union student organizations. As a certified Qualifying Administer of the Intercultural Development Inventory, (IDI), she helps educate students on cultural competency as it relates to self-awareness, cultural identity and navigating the challenges of attending a predominately white institution.
